It is summer when everyone used to leave the hot, California desert. But this is the 21st Century and cool Palm Springs and its surrounding cities continue to attract a young, hip crowd along with olders (such as this writer) who have discovered ways of keeping cool and loving it!
Step 1 – Wake up and have a morning swim. Ten laps before breakfast each day keeps me cool, refreshed and feeling healthy.
Step 2 – Take in the SplashHouse pool parties Aug. 8-10 at Saguaro, Hard Rock Hotel, new Hacienda Cantina and Beach Club. Bound to be bigger and better than last year with Golden Voice a partner!
Step 3 - It may not be chic, but sip your summer wine from an ice filled glass.
Step 4 – Catch up on your summer reading and marvel at the similarity of today’s political struggles with those depicted in Doris Kearns Goodwin’s The Bully Pulpit about Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft. Even the term “Do Nothing Congress” is not new.
Step 5- Catch up on the movies you missed at cool theatres including the encore of live opera from the Metropolitan Opera in NY and simulcasts of brilliant, live theatre from NY and London.
Step 6 - Take in the summer benefits including 4th of July eats and treats benefiting AIDS Assistance Program at O’Donnell House with sky high view of Valley fireworks and hundreds of red, white and blue cupcakes to go with your yummy hot dogs and hamburgers; the July 13 Pets On Parade benefiting Pegasus Riding Academy, and check out photos of the recent Jazz It Up With Bill Marx at Mission Hills Country Club benefiting ACT for Multiple Sclerosis. (Thanks to Alexis Hunter and Kate Porter for all the ACT for MS photos they took – now in the ACT for MS Photo Gallery. Scroll down to Charities & Causes bottom of Home Page. Click on ACT for MS and when you are in the website, click Photographs.)
Last Tip – Another swim and 10 more laps before bed and you are bound to sleep all night.
